The moveable alphabet is a Montessori material used to teach children to spell words without forcing them to write with a pencil. It’s a set of formed letters, with 10 of each vowell, and five of each consonnant. Vowells are always a different color than the consonnants (in this case, red) to help point out their role in forming sounds.
Ideally, these should be cut and laminated to last longer, but printing them out on good-quality cardstock will allow them to last a fair amount of time.
These alphabet pieces are to be used with the phonics schemes (pink, blue, green) that I will put out shortly, or you can use them to help the learn to spell their names, for example, or short words.
Some odeas of activities to use them with are included below.
If you have any questions about how to use them, or if you’d like to share what you did with your set, please let everyone know by posting a comment!

1. Write a simple word on a sheet of paper, like cat, and have the child find the leters to make the same word. Do this several times with a list of about five or six words.
2. When they become more confident, place pictures of these objects on the table and have them try to build the word by sounding ou tthe word sound-by-sound.
3. When they finish, give them theword tag back to see if they did it well, or if they need to correct.
4. Write out their name on a slip of paper and have them spell their name with the letters. As the gain confidence, encourage them to do it without their name written in front of them.
