Once the child has mastered the object boxes, the child may move on to the picture cards which are the first instance of direct reading which they do in the Montessori program.
Download the templates here and print them out on pink paper. If you like, you can laminate them.
The idea is straight-forward. The child is given a card with six pictures on it, along with the matching word cards and asked to match the words to the pictures by slowly sounding out the letters to form the words. When one card has been mastered, another card may be done until they’ve all been completed.
