Yesterday, I bought a beanbag chair. I’ve wanted one for ages and because of the limited amount of space in my dayhome area, I thought that it was the perfect portable sitting product since I could easily remove it from the room when not in use. Also, with only a love seat and two children’s chairs, I needed more sitting-space for the children.
What I didn’t plan on however, was the mess that it would cause trying to fill it! It’s one of those chairs you buy at Walmart where you choose and buy the liner separately, and the package tells you how many bags of beans you need (in this case, 2 100-litre bags of TINY polyethylene balls). Did I mention that I forgot how much static these little suckers have?
I thought that it would be simple and straightforward. Cut an opening into the bag of beans and pour into liner. There were several problems to that theory. First of all, the liner has two one-way zippers that once you close, can’t be opened again. I had closed it up a few inches before realizing this, thus cutting back on the available space with which to pour through. Secondly, these beans are so light that they cling to everything and fly-about at ANY opportunity!
My husband picked up the bag to pour while I held the liner. The liner fell once because I wasn’t holding it well-enough and well..this is the result of out endeavor:
The girls had a blast taking a container and attempting to pick up the pieces, though more ended up outside of the container than inside. Still, we had more fun doing this than we’ve had in a long time!
Addendum:
Though we spend an hour trying to hunt down every little bean, as of this morning (Dec 15th), there are literally dozens floating around the living room and kitchen…time to start a pool on how long it will take to be rid of them all!
