Of all the Canadian Provinces, Alberta is the most homeschooling-friendly. With full government support, and financial assistance, parents have the freedom to home-educate their children with minimal intervention. This said, there still appears to be some resistance to the homeschooling idea among the francophone school boards, and families are often pushed to sign up with English-language boards.
In order to secure funding, families must legally register their school-aged children with a willing non-resident schoolboard, or a willing resident board. Over the next few months, we will explore the various aspects of homeschooling in this province, including:
- laws
- homeschool funding in Alberta
- a review of willing resident and non-resident school boards
- homeschooler resources
- homeschool support groups
- homeschooling events
- what it’s like to homeschool in Alberta
Please feel free to share any information that could help fellow-homeschoolers on their journey.
