Thursday, October 15th, 2009I just thought I’d revisit some of my old blog posts and found that the Montessori Pink Level manipulatives are still my hottest download. If you (or someone you know) are looking to teach your children to read using the Montessori method, the pink scheme, that you’d find in a high-priced Montessori school is available here [...]

Pink Level: Sentence-Strip Tracing
Friday, September 26th, 2008Like with the other pink-level traceables, these are to be presented after a child has mastered the task (sentence strips in this case) and only if the child so-desires.
Download the file here.
Pink Level: Phrase Strips Tracing Activity
Friday, September 26th, 2008While working on the phrase strips with your child, these strips will help you to reinforce the new concepts learned in a colorful way. Cut out the strips and give them to your child one at a time as he is able to read the new phrase.

Pink Level: Word Lists Writing Practice
Thursday, September 25th, 2008Simply put, I’ve uploaded the pink level word lists formatted in a way that the child may trace over each word as he learns them. Once the child has finished with a specific word list, you may give him the corresponding one in this set as writing practice and to reinforce what has been learned.
Cut [...]
Pink Level: Sentence Strips
Wednesday, September 24th, 2008The final “installment” in the Montessori pink reading level is the sentence strips.
Once the child has mastered reading phrases, it’s time to move on to these simple sentences which act as a springboard for further reading.
The sentence strips are available here.
Pink Level: Phrase Strips
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008Wth the phrase strips, your child can begin reading more than one word at a time without worrying about formatting. These ten strips will allow him to gain some confidence in putting the words together to make a meaningful idea.
Don’t push your child to read all the strips in the same day. One or two [...]
Pink Level: Sight Words
Sunday, September 21st, 2008Thee sight words give the child the necessities needed to start reading sentences and phrases. I personally don’t use them with my children or in my class; I would teach them the words as required while we were reading phrases and sentences.
You can use these many ways:
Flash cards: Show them to your child several times [...]
Object Box Re-enforcement Exercises
Thursday, September 18th, 2008These worksheets may be used to help your child re-enforce his knowledge of the words in the object boxes. These are especially useful with children who are having difficulty understanding the concepts.

A Day in Our Life…
Monday, September 15th, 2008I thought that it would be interesting to profile what we do in a typical homeschooling day. I say the word typical with prejudice since a typical day doesn’t really exist when you homeschool!
I use the Calvert Kindergarten Curriculum. Dawn loves workbooks and traditional learning, so I thought that it would make a good start [...]
